You can extend your hourly chauffeur booking on the day in Wellington, subject to your driver’s availability and our scheduling commitments. Because we employ our chauffeurs directly rather than working through an app, your driver will check with our operations team to confirm whether the vehicle can stay with you beyond the original timeframe. It’s often possible, particularly on weekdays, but cannot be guaranteed during busy periods.
How do I request extra time once my booking has started?
Simply ask your chauffeur when you’re together. They’ll contact our Wellington operations team in real time to check availability and confirm whether the vehicle can remain with you. If we can accommodate the extension, your driver will let you know immediately.
Will I pay a surge price if I add hours on the day?
No. We quote a fixed, GST-inclusive rate for the additional time with no surge pricing or meter. Your chauffeur will confirm the cost before you commit to the extension, and it will be added to your original booking total.
What happens if the car isn’t available to stay longer?
If we have another commitment scheduled for that vehicle — such as a Wellington Airport pickup or another hourly booking — your driver won’t be able to extend. We’ll do our best to arrange an alternative if one of our other Mercedes E-Class, V-Class, or Sprinter vehicles is free, but this isn’t always possible at short notice.
Is it better to book extra time upfront or add it on the day?
Booking the full duration upfront through chauffeur.co.nz/book guarantees the vehicle and driver for your entire timeframe. Adding hours on the day works when plans change unexpectedly, but pre-booking removes any risk that we’re committed elsewhere, especially if you’re moving between Thorndon, the Terrace, and the airport during peak periods.
Does this work the same way for weddings or special events?
The process is identical — your chauffeur checks availability with our team — but extensions are less likely during weekends and event season when our fleet is heavily scheduled. If you’re planning a wedding run from Wellington to the Wairarapa or a full day around the harbour and Miramar, build buffer time into your original booking.
